Star Trek Movie Delayed Until Next Year
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Paramount, Drama, Science Fiction, Sequels, Trailers, Upcoming Releases,
Well, it looks like we’re going to have to wait a little longer to beam anyone up.
Those who made it out to see Cloverfield in the past few weeks got a sneak peek at another J.J. Abrams production: Star Trek. (If you haven’t seen the clip yet, you can view it after the jump.) Unfortunately, a major part of that trailer is now no longer true.
The highly-anticipated prequel/sequel was slated to be released ‘Christmas 2008’. What it should have said was ‘December….Give Or Take a Few Months.’
According to Variety, the movie’s premiere will remain ‘under construction’ until May 8, 2009.
The film was simply part of a major reshuffling in Paramount‘s calendar. In most cases, a changed date usually signals bad news; that’s not the case with Trek. In fact, the studio believes the movie will benefit from this shift.
Actors involved in the next installment include Tyler Perry, Winona Ryder, Zoe Saldana, Eric Bana, Zachary Quinto and Leonard Nimoy.

Palahniuk’s Film Choke Finally Set to Release in August

Both film and book nerds alike have been watching cult author Chuck Palahniuk‘s every move since Fight Club was released in theaters. While all of his novels are fully capable of becoming both marketable and move theater-friendly, his fourth novel, Choke, has finally seen the light of day past the production floor. With Fox Searchlight having bought the film for $5 million and it winning a Best Ensemble Cast jury award at Sundance, the Choke crew and Palahniuk fans everywhere cannot be more ecstatic about the film’s release date of August 1, 2008.
Although the film is Clark Gregg’s directorial debut, he has certainly been no stranger to the industry nor the project, having gone through numerous obstacles to get his adaptation onto the big screen. His script is so good that even Palahniuk himself has done nothing but award it praise. With Palahniuk’s seal of approval and a lead cast including Sam Rockwell, Anjelica Huston, and Kelly Macdonald, nothing can go wrong, right?

Michael Cera to Star in Film Adaptation of Youth in Revolt
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Weinstein Company, Adaptation, Adventure, Romance, Satire, Comedy, Books, Casting, Celeb News, Upcoming Releases,
Youth In Revolt, both a critically acclaimed novel by C.D. Payne and a failed MTV mini-series, has been adapted into a screenplay and began production early this year. This original and hilarious black comedy will star Michael Cera (Juno, Superbad) as the story’s overly sex-crazed protagonist, Nick Twisp, who - along with an inconvenient hair trigger on his erectile response - involves himself in arson, car theft, homelessness and even an identity change to satisfy his pubescent desires and finally lose his virginity. Although no other cast members have been confirmed, Cera’s recently built reputation for the role as the awkward teen with no grip on a decent romantic or sex life (which rightfully won him 2 nominations for Best Young Actor this year) will certainly do great justice for the role.

Love Scene for Scarlett Johannson and Penelope Cruz

Now that I’ve caught your attention…
According to the New York Post, an upcoming moment in Vicky Cristina Barcelona may rival that scene from Wild Things most people know quite well about.
In this film, two A-List actresses will engage in what is being described as an “extremely erotic” lesbian performance. To ramp up the tension, the ladies - Scarlett Johannson and Penelope Cruz - will later be joined by a third.
Cruz’s on-screen husband (and real-life boyfriend), Javier Bardem, is the lucky guy who will eventually turn the twosome into a ménage à trois.
Did I mention that this is a Woody Allen film?

A New ‘Hannah Montana’ Movie Planned
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Disney, Adaptation, Family, Music, Comedy, Upcoming Releases,
Now that Miley Cyrus has become a solidified box office success, the execs at Disney can move on to Phase #15 of Montana World Domination.
Months after announcing a big-screen version of High School Musical, the Mouse bigwigs have decided to adapt another one of their shows. Starting this April, production on a Hannah Montana movie (not a concert tour) will begin. (Musical starts its filming in March.)
While casting for the pic has not yet been announced, Miley’s father will also be along for the ride. (How Billy Ray went from Mulholland Drive to this, I don’t know.)
Based on what is being reported, we should be expecting cameos galore. Can we say Spice World?

Cast Set for ‘G.I. Joe’
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Paramount, Action, Adaptation, Casting, Upcoming Releases,
Last year, Neil Estep and I addressed the upcoming G.I. Joe movie on an episode of FilmCrunch. Months later, we now know the names beefing up for this live-action adaptation.
It’s been announced that Dennis Quaid will be assuming the role of General Hawk while Channing Tatum (Step Up) will be putting on Duke Hauser’s fatigues. These two actors will join an already long list of players. Others confirmed for the futuristic war movie include Marlon Wayans as Ripcord, Sienna Miller (Factory Girl), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (The Lookout), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Lost), Said Taghmaoui (The Kite Runner) and Rachel Nichols (Alias).
The Paramount feature - based on the childhood action figure - is scheduled to hit theaters on Aug. 7, 2009. The movie will be co-produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, the same man behind the other Hasbro-related film, Transformers.

New ‘Bond’ Title Announced
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: MGM, Sony, Action, Sequels, Casting, Upcoming Releases,
Up until now, the 22nd installment in the Bond franchise had simply been known as Bond 22. Now the latest Daniel Craig outing officially has a name: Quantum of Solace.
Solace, which is scheduled for a Nov. 7th release, will pick up where Casino Royale left off. British actress Gemma Arterton joins Craig on this latest mission as Agent Fields while Mathieu Amalric (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly) will assume the role of the nemesis. Meanwhile, Olga Kurylenko has the honor of replacing Eva Green as the latest Bond girl.
Now’s your time to vote. Which 2008 sequel currently has the worst title: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull or Quantum of Solace?

Another Fanning Finding Stardom
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Drama, Celeb News, Celebrity Gossip, Upcoming Releases,
Cute little Dakota Fanning is growing up quickly, and moving into teen roles instead of playing the adorable tyke - and Abigail Breslin can’t do every female kid role available in the movies, right? Enter Elle Fanning, Dakota’s little sis and perhaps the next kid star in the making.
Elle has already appeared in big-name movies (e.g. Babel), but now she’s moved into the lead. This little sis is playing the title role in Phoebe in Wonderland, which recently premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. Young, troubled Phoebe sees a therapist in the flick, displaying a precocious nature akin to her big sister’s. She signs up to become Alice in Wonderland (that’s how the title figures in), and Phoebe’s imagination takes over.
Reviewer comments on the film have been highly positive.

Oliver Stone to Tell the Tale of George W. Bush
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Drama, Political, Casting, Celeb News, Upcoming Releases,
In the history of the United States of America, no president has become a star of pop culture quite like George W. Bush. In his two terms in the White House, there have been more SNL skits, more jokes, tons of movies and more clips of his press conferences than you can shake a Bill of Rights at. Now, director Oliver Stone will create a full length feature film depicting the Presidency that changed our Constitution. Stone has previously created movies about JFK and Nixon, and promises reporters this new movie will tell the true tale of Bush’s time in office.
Currently, the director is in talks with actor Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men) to play the title role. If all goes well and production begins on schedule, the movie will be released in November during the heat and hostility of election time. If this timetable can’t be met, Stone is hopeful he can have the movie in theaters the following January (when the new Pres is being inaugurated).
In his own words, Stone says he will make a movie that is “a fair, true portrait” of our current president. So…it’s going to be a tragic comedy, right?
