Cate Blanchett Dismisses Oscar Speculation

Cate BlanchettCate Blanchett didn't work with Woody Allen because she wants an Oscar. The actress has been tipped to win an Academy Award for her lead role in Woody's latest film, Blue Jasmine, but played the rumors down at the film's Australian premiere in Sydney.

Cate - who already won an Oscar in 2005 for her role in The Aviator alongside Leonardo DiCaprio - said, "I don't think anyone enters into an exchange with Woody thinking about that as an outcome. I think along with those actresses he's created a number of iconic, strange, weird and wonderful women that have been on celluloid."

The 44-year-old star admitted she hadn't initially read the script to the film, but didn't need long to consider working with the director, who has previously taken home five Oscars: "I think most people [want to sign up immediately] when they hear Woody Allen wants to work with them. Apart from being a great filmmaker and auteur, he's an incredible dramatist."

Blue Jasmine follows an elite New York City housewife who loses her wealth and powerful status when her businessman husband - played by Alec Baldwin - is found guilty of running an investment scam.

Cate Blanchett for New Woody Allen Movie?

Cate BlanchettWoody Allen wants Cate Blanchett and Bradley Cooper for his latest movie.

The legendary director - who is notoriously reluctant to release details of his films ahead of production - is said to be eyeing Danish capital Copenhagen as the setting for his new movie which will feature Cate as the star and Bradley as part of an ensemble cast.

Although he has focused on his directing work in recent years - winning the Best Original Screenplay Oscar this year for his work on Midnight in Paris - it was recently revealed Woody will play an aging escort in Fading Gigolo, an indie comedy written and directed by John Turturro. John will also star as a gigolo in the movie, which tells the story of two "cash-strapped best friends" who go into the escort business and find their local Hasidic Jewish community suspecting them of unusual goings-on, Variety reports.

Sofia Vergara and Sharon Stone are set to play two of the women who pick up the ageing men. It will be the first time Woody has acted in a film since Picking Up The Pieces 12 years ago.

Carla Bruni-Sarkozy Accepts Woody Allen Offer

Carla Bruni-SarkozyWhat is it about Woody Allen that gets women accepting his film roles? Recently, he snagged Freida Pinto; now he’s somehow managed to get France’s first lady to appear in his movie!

Following the circulation of rumors that pointed to the collaboration, former supermodel Carla Bruni-Sarkozy has

finally

openly agreed to act for Allen, despite not having a clue who she will portray nor having much expertise on a set.

“I do everything a little bit blindly. If I don’t, I won’t do anything. I’m not at all an actress. Maybe I’ll be absolutely terrible,” Carla admitted.

Despite jumping into the project without a clue, Carla is excited about the role and reveals just why she said, “Yes”:

“I’d like to—you know—when I’m a grandmother, to have done a Woody Allen film. I cannot in my life miss an opportunity like this… If this ever comes about, it’ll be a great experience.”

No word on yet as to what kind of project Allen has in store for Bruni-Sarkozy.

Carla Bruni May Star in Woody Allen Film

Carla BruniCarla Bruni - who married French President Nicolas Sarkozy in 2007 - is rumored to have accepted an offer from director . The part would be in an as-yet-untitled movie he is planning to make next year.

Woody stated last year he would offer Carla “any role she liked” in one of his films.

“I would like to work with Carla Bruni. I’m sure she would be wonderful. She has charisma and she performs, so she’s not unknown to an audience, and I would cast her in many different ways,” Allen said. “She is an accomplished artist, she is very beautiful and I am sure she would have a gift for comedy. I can assure people it would cause no problems with President Sarkozy, or with the image of France.”

Carla, 41 - whose sister Valeria and mother Marysa are both experienced actresses - has only ever held a few small film roles in the past, most notably in Robert Altman’s 1994 satire Pret-a-Porter.

Woody’s latest, also untitled, project is currently filming in London and stars Slumdog Millionaire , Anthony Hopkins, Antonio Banderas and Naomi Watts.
