Johnny Depp Mad for Hatter Role
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Disney, Adaptation, Classics, Family, Casting, Celeb News, Celebrity Gossip, Upcoming Releases,
Johnny Depp is honored to play the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland.
The 46-year-old actor admits his eccentric character in Tim Burton‘s film, based on the classic children’s novel, was a “dream” role.
“To play the Mad Hatter and breathe life into Tim’s vision is a dream come true. He’s a fascinating character. He’s mad. He’s unpredictable.”
Depp also suggests the Mad Hatter will have a great affection for the movie’s protagonist, Alice, played by actress Mia Wasikowska: “They complete one another like a brother and sister do. He’s very protective of her, and she’s very protective of him.”
Earlier this month Anne Hathaway, who plays the White Queen in the movie, admitted the original script had her playing the lead role of Alice - but she turned it down as she felt it was too close to a previous role.
“The studio had the Alice script a long time ago and I was approached back then for the part of Alice. I considered it, but felt, what with The Princess Diaries, that I had been there, done that sort of pretty-girl-in-a-fairy-dress role. I told the studio, however, that I would, however, be interested in playing the White Queen.”
Alice in Wonderland follows a storyline different to the original story, written by Lewis Caroll, and will be released in early March.
What’s Tim Burton Doing Next?
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Adaptation, Animation, Celebrity Gossip, Rumors,
Alice in Wonderland is in the till, and director Tim Burton is already thinking about his next project. What will it be? Some rumors suggest that he’s going to take an entirely new twist on a very old Disney Classic.
Sleeping Beauty, gorgeously set to the strains of the Tchaikovsky ballet by the same name, was the third feature-length film created by the Walt Disney Corporation and contains some of the most iconic fairy tale imagery in cinema history. Now, gossip says that Tim Burton wants to use this classic story for a new live-action flick…that focuses on the film’s villain Maleficent.
Let me guess. Helena Bonham Carter is going to play the role, right?
Though this is all just rumor (and Tim Burton is currently working on a project even now), it seems to have a ring of truth. We’ll keep you updated as more details unfold.

Could 2010 just get here already?
Although there are a long list of award nominees I still have yet to see, I’m already looking forward to the post-Oscar period. I mean, how can you watch this new Alice in Wonderland trailer and not get excited? I doubt we’d ever see anything this fun in the Best Film category - even with its expanded field. Thankfully, we have less than three months to go before the March 5 premiere.
A slightly different UK trailer can be found after the jump.

In a recent interview, New Moon‘s Bower said would love to see his Sweeney Todd boss, Tim Burton, behind the camera for the fourth installment. “I think he’d just change it up. Tim Burton’s Unique Relationship with Johnny Depp
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrity Gossip,
Tim Burton doesn’t know what he and Johnny Depp talk about.
The director - who is working on Alice In Wonderland, his seventh venture with the actor - admits he is regularly left perplexed when they finish discussing their work.
He said: “What do we talk about? That’s the thing - we don’t really know. It’s very nice to have someone that you can have a completely abstract conversation with and leave the room, feel like everything’s fine, and then realize that if you pick it apart, you have absolutely no idea what either of you said.”
