Tom Hardy Doesn’t Want to Compete with Heath Ledger

Tom Hardy doesn't want to compete with Heath Ledger.
The Inception actor has admitted he isn't worried about living up to the late actor's legacy by taking on the role of the villain in the third Batman installment, The Dark Knight Rises.
"That would be putting myself in a competition with somebody who's clearly brilliant. And it's not a question of whose talent is greater or whose work is greater. It's just trying to be the best that we can be. I'm not trying to be better than somebody else. What he did was amazing. That's that. I've got a part I've got to play, and I want to play my part."
Tom portrays muscular comic book super-villain Bane in Christopher Nolan's latest film, while Brokeback Mountain star Heath was awarded a posthumous Best Actor Oscar for his performance as the Joker in The Dark Knight.
The Dark Knight Rises producer, Emma Thomas, said the writers wanted to steer clear of similarities with Heath's iconic Joker character: "We were obviously never going to revisit the Joker, and you don't want to be trying to chase that. It's fun to have a very different sort of villain in this, and a different sort of challenge for Batman to meet, much more physical. It's almost a more even match in some ways, you know, in a physical sense."

Jude Law to Help Award Heath Ledger Scholarship

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celeb News,

Jude Law has been asked to judge the Heath Ledger Scholarship competition.
The Sherlock Holmes actor - who along with Johnny Depp and Colin Farrell took over the late actor’s role in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus after he died - said he was “delighted” to have the opportunity.
“I am delighted and honored to do what I can to keep Heath’s legacy alive. He was a brilliant actor and a wonderful man and it is only fitting that this scholarship has been developed in his name,” Law stated.
The Australians in Film Heath Ledger Scholarship is awarded to an emerging Australian actor who wants to pursue a career in America. This year’s finalists will be announced in February 2010.
First Look: Ledger in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus Trailer

Is it possible that a trailer can make you feel giddy yet sad all at the same time?
In this trailer for The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, we get to see Heath Ledger on the big screen for the final time. Although the project was put in limbo after the Oscar winner’s January 2008 death, the generosity of three fellow actors helped save the film.
Instead of scrapping the movie altogether, director Terry Gilliam (Brazil) recruited Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell for the adventure. The three men not only donated their time, they donated their fees to Matilda Ledger, Heath’s daughter.
Parnassus - also starring Christopher Plummer, Tom Waits, Verne Troyer and Lily Cole - opens on Oct. 16.

For today’s installment, we have Joseph Gordon-Levitt (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra) on the left and the late Heath Ledger (The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus) on the right.
Aside from the fact that the two actors experienced extreme transformations to portray two of pop culture’s most notorious villains, Cobra Commander and the Joker, the pair could pass off as brothers when the makeup comes off!

Preview Heath Ledger’s Final Work in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Adventure, Independent, Videos,
The Dark Knight might be the thing we most remember Heath Ledger by, but it wasn’t the Oscar winner’s last film. In The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Heath plays a member of a theater troupe that has made a series of pacts with the devil. Their deals allow audience members to explore their imaginations through a magical mirror.
Although it’s not known whether Parnassus will ever be distributed stateside, the movie - which Ledger was filming when he died - is being shown at Cannes this week. Johnny Depp, one of Heath’s three fill-ins, is expected to be at the screening this Friday.
