Dell Issues Sweeping Laptop Battery Recall Notice
It looks like Dell is doing one of the most massive recalls in consumer electronics history, issuing a voluntary recall in conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission of some 2.7 million notebook battery packs (an additional 1.4 million battery packs were sold outside the U.S.) sold in conjunction with select Latitude, Inspiron, Dell Precision and XPS notebooks sold between April 2004 and July 2006. The Sony-built lithium-ion batteries can potentially overheat, posing a fire hazard to consumers. Six reports of batteries overheating have already been filed with Dell. More details on the recall, including which specific batteries are impacted, can be found through Dell’s Web site or at the CPSC site.
