Leaked video shows WWE ‘13 to launch November 1

Recent WWE television spots have been promoting the arrival of a "revolution," causing many to speculate what exactly that would be. As it turns out, the revolution that will be revealed this Monday night on Raw is the WWE '13 video game. Above we have a leaked video that seems to lack sound, showing off CM Punk in the commercial spot, followed by some footage from the game, including a recreation of Mark Henry and The Big Show destroying the ring with a superplex, foreshadowing that this will be something you can do in the game itself.

Best Buy and Target to start selling used games
Posted by John Kilhefner Categories: Corporate News, Culture, PlayStation 3, THQ, Wii, Xbox 360,
Taking a controversial page from Gamestop’s book, Best Buy and Target both are in the beginning stages of implementing a trade-in program for used videos games in exchange for store credit. Best Buy has revealed that it will start offering a trade-in program this week in 600 locations, and will begin selling used games “soon”.
Target’s Electronic Trade-In department is currently open in North Carolina, and will increase to 850 stores by December 2010. Unlike Gamestop where you can only trade in video games and their accessories to buy more video games and the like; Target comprises a much larger trade-in spectrum, allowing customers to trade in cell phones, iPods, and video games to receive store credit. This store credit can net you the many different items sold in Target, and is not just limited to digital devices.
This all comes much to the dismay of video game publishers, namely THQ CEO Cory Ledesma who recently discussed how used games “cheat” the video game industry. Despite this, it seems that Best Buy and Target intend to get away with some heavy duty cheating this holiday season.
Look for the Best Buy on Columbia Heights 3100 14th St NW to start accepting trade-ins by December.

Guillermo del Toro teams up with THQ
Posted by John Kilhefner Categories: PlayStation 3, THQ, Xbox 360,
Last week we reported on Guillermo del Toro’s intent to work with a “big game publisher” to create several new titles. Without mentioning more than that, we were left to speculate on who this mysterious company was, and what games the mastermind of Pan’s Labyrinth and Hellboy had up his sleeve. Now, the former question has been revealed to The LA Times to be THQ.
THQ is primarily known as a developer of kiddie games and wrestling titles, but have recently began focusing on their mature audiences with both the Red Faction and Saints Row franchises. The former of which is set to broadcast on SyFy as a live-action film in 2011. Now with del Toro lending his hand to the THQ drawing board, we can expect to see more “games that are going to be technically and narratively very interesting”.

THQ Sends Queen Gold-Plated Wii
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: THQ, Wii,
THQ one-upped the President in gift giving by sending their latest Wii title, “Big Family Games,” to the Queen of England. They also shipped her a gold-plated system with Remote and Nunchuck. The company stated the Royal Family is the most important one in the country and therefore needed one. While this is great publicity for THQ, we wonder if the monarch will send them a framed portrait as she did for the First Family. And, by the way, shouldn’t they send one to them too, as Sasha and Melia are certainly at an age to appreciate the gift.

Saints Row 2 Announced
Posted by Paul Hamilton Categories: Action, PlayStation 3, Release Dates, Third Person Shooters, THQ, Xbox 360,
THQ announced that sequel to the GTA-style next gen game Saints Row is in the works. Saints Row was an Xbox 360 exclusive that followed the criminal underworld/open world model of Rockstar‘s key franchise pretty closely but included a character generator and several minor improvements that made it a hit with early 360 adopters.
Saints Row 2 takes place years after the original in the same city (Stillwater), but things have changed with the passage of time. As described in the press release, “Saints Row 2 has a much darker and more sinister story that leads your character down a path of betrayal, revenge and redemption against the city that has left him for dead.”
Unlike the original, which was a 360 exclusive, Saints Row 2 will be released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 sometime in 2008.

Viva Piñata Headed To The Nintendo DS
Posted by Chris Pereira Categories: Casual, Microsoft, Nintendo, Nintendo DS, Strategy,
During Comic-Con last week, Microsoft announced that a Viva Piñata title was in development for the Nintendo DS. Apparently, this isn’t going to be a Party Animals port (the Mario Party-style Viva Piñata title announced during this year’s Microsoft E3 press conference) – instead, it’ll be a full on remake of the Xbox 360 game. It’ll contain all of the piñata found in the Xbox 360 version, as well as some new ones, as well.
“You’ll also be given free rein with an expanded selection of tools and tool actions, upgraded forms of the Journal and Encyclopaedia, and brand new game modes such as Sandbox (for full and easy access to your favourite Piñatas) and Episodes (tying in more closely to the TV series and allowing fans of the show to spend quality time with familiar faces).”
The game will be designed with the unique features of the DS in mind; most specifically, the DS’ touch panel.
“Design, nurture, instruct, protect and care for your garden and animals through direct touch. The DS WiFi service also lets you send prime Piñata specimens to your friends, making the act of parading your Doenut around in a humiliating pirate outfit easier than ever.”
It’ll be interesting to see exactly who gets the publishing rights to the game. Following Microsoft’s acquisition, Rare did still release several games on the Game Boy Advance, all of which were published by THQ. And the recently released Diddy Kong Racing DS, developed by Rare, was published by Nintendo.
