Fusion Tour Logo Nintendo may want to have a little “talking-to” with their web designer. First, GoNintendo.com found some hidden webpages under wii.nintendo.com placeholding for Fire Emblem Wii and Wii Music.

And now, Playfeed.com has found a hidden page under nintendofusiontour.com that may give the venues and dates for the tour, where the gaming public will be able to preview the Wii and listen to

“up and coming” bands. Going to this page shows a listing of tour dates and venues, starting on September 27th, but ending on November 23rd. This doesn’t exactly match up with the announced dates of September 27th - November 11th, but there are two possibilities:

1) Nintendo is already planning on “extending” the tour due to “overwhelming demand!” or
2) These are just the tour dates from last year. Did anyone actually go to the Fusion Tour 2005 and remember the dates / venues?

Still, if possibility 2) is the right answer, you’d at least think Nintendo would have the foresight to take this old page down. If this DOES end up being the full list, then I expect this page will be disappearing soon, so we’ve cleverly posted the list right here, after the jump.

Fusion Tour LogoThe Nintendo Fusion Tour—a “concert” that’s really a Nintendo marketing event with “up and coming” bands—will be back this year, according to the Billboard music website. The tour will be headlined by the “Hawthorne Heights” act and will give folks who couldn’t make it to E3 a chance to play with Nintendo’s new Wii console.

It looks as if Billboard may have broken the news early by accident. Going to www.nintendofusiontour takes you to a post on Nintendo.com that has the tour logo and a short notice saying only “More Information Coming Soon”. Hopefully, this page will be updated shortly so that we can get an idea of what cities will be previewing the Wii.

DS Lite hinge cracksSome owners of the DS lite (who couldn’t have owned it for much more than a month), are already starting to notice some small cracking in the plastic outer shell, specifically on the hinge near the L shoulder button. Maxconsole.net has had 4 users send in pictures of this problem, which while not necessarily widespread is definitely not an isolated incident either. This problem is being seen by adult users who “treated their DS lite like a baby”, so chances are there might be some small defect in the manufacturing process.

Of course, this problem does not in any way affect the operation of the DS and is only a minor cosmetic issue. Still, users over at MaxConsole have decided to make a trip to the Nintendo World store in New York City, to see how the demo units there are holding up. Now that you’re aware of the issue, do you have DS lite with similar cracking?

DescriptionNintendo seems to be taking their mission of reaching untapped gaming markets really seriously - this time it’s in a way that I don’t think many of us would have expected. On July 15th in the “Solera at Stallion Mountain Recreation Center”  in Las Vegas (read: gated community for the 55-and-older crowd), Nintendo will show off its DS Lite and the Brain Age game to seniors who have probably never touched a Nintendo product in their life.

I’ve often thought that Brain Age is one of the few Nintendo titles that might actually appeal to older gamers. Even with their new Touch Generations line, games like Tetris DS or even Big Brain Academy seem to still have fairly gamer-oriented presentation and often rely on twitchy reflexes. Personally, the only other title that I could picture senior folks playing and enjoying is Sudoku Gridmaster, but maybe I’m wrong! Still, if Nintendo sees a warm reception during this event, I expect we might see some more “relaxed” titles in the future.

DS LiteDespite recent analyst gloom-and-doom statements that June would be a slow month for gaming, NPD reports that videogame sales increased 25 percent year over year. The game industry was predicted to be in a slump this year, as game and console manufacturers gear up for the holiday console launches. But to date this year, videogame sales are up around 4 percent, despite any earlier slowdown.

The biggest driver appears to be the Nintendo DS, which sold an amazing 593,000 units in June. This bested the sales figures for the PS2 and the Xbox 360 combined. The PS2 pulled in 312,000 consoles sold, and the Xbox 360 trailed slightly at 277,000 units. The DS also drove portable software sales, bringing an increase of 30 percent over last year. Right now, at least, it looks like the DS is becoming a phenomenon in the portable world. Any gamer who judged the DS by its mediocre launch two years ago would have to be surprised by its immense success today. While the DS dominates, every videogame category was up percentage-wise.

It may seem like forever and a day until the US can get its hands on the English version of FF III for the Nintendo DS, but I think we can safely say that it’ll be worth the wait. The above footage shows off what looks to be near the beginning of the (Japanese version) game, and it looks great - the characters are quite detailed, the animations seem very smooth, and some of the enemies like the turtle-y one at the end of this demo look really gorgeous on the small screen. It appears to be quite reminiscent in many ways to the look and feel of FF VII for the Playstation, and that can only be a good thing.

It’ll be only about 60 days until the US release, at which point the DS will finally have (hopefully!) its killer RPG. Now, if Nintendo would just throw us a bone about what you can do over Nintendo WiFi Connection…

Ever wonder why the demo units at stores look like they’ve been through World War III? It could have something to do with “testers” like these. This video was recently posted on YouTube, showing some folks doing terrible things to a DS lite trial station they found at their local Wal-Mart. In the video, you’ll see them trying as best they can to break the touch-screen on the DS lite. After a lot of pushing and heavy grunting, the screen still looks perfect - a great advertisement for the quality of Nintendo products, I guess!

Please, don’t try this at home, or even at your local chain retailer… we’re glad to know that the DS lite survived this stress-test, but we’d rather people don’t abuse store displays like this.

A trailer is now out for LEGO Star Wars: The Original Trilogy.  The trailer definitely showcases the fun factor of the LEGO Star Wars games and makes me want to find a copy of the first LEGO Star Wars.  The game is set for a September 12th release on all platforms except the Wii.

Tingle RPGFamitsu has a ton of new screenshots from the upcoming Tingle RPG. As befitting an adventure featuring a portly middle-aged fairy, the shots are completely bizarre. The gameplay shots apparently focus on rupee collection and donation in the game. Apparently, Tingle’s life is somehow tied to rupees collected and this will play a major factor in gameplay. The game will ship on September 2, 2006, in Japan for 4800 Yen. It doesn’t seem likely that the game will be released in the US, but one never can tell.

Black DS Lite Europe’s lock on the Jet Black DS Lite will end soon. On September 2, the black version of the handheld will be available in Japan at 16800 Yen, according to an article from Famitsu. This will make the fifth color to launch in Japan, after the Noble Pink DS Lite becomes available on July 20. Meanwhile, gamers in the United States have to content themselves with one color. The US eventually saw the release of different color versions of the original DS; hopefully Nintendo will bless North America with other options for the DS Lite soon. Impatient gamers can still order other colors from Play-Asia.com for about a $50 price penalty.
