Beyond the Arc: Week 22
Posted by Brandon Haraway Categories: H2H, Injuries, Props, Roto, Site Features,
The playoffs are here! Put down your bracket and pull out your fantasy league’s bracket. Now’s the time to buckle down, make no mistakes, and take home the trophy. Make sure you check your team twice or three times a day. Drop guys who aren’t producing: there’s no more waiting around to do. Don’t be afraid to bench a star who is playing two games if you can cover his spot with good production. And if it’s Wednesday and you are big in the hole, start streaming. These are the strategies that win leagues.
Let’s jump into the schedule for next week (3/24-3/30):
The Fig Cap: That’s cute. So is Lamar’s recent production.

Playoff Picture: East vs. West

If you need a fantasy fix because your playoffs draw near, feel free to check our playoff primers for the Western and Eastern conferences. Also see some science being dropped in the latest installment of Sarge’s Wire to Wire and Brandon’s Beyond the Arc. And if you have some extra idle time, you can think up all the different ways to interpret B’s Fig Cap.
For now we take a walk on the reality side to focus on the playoff races going on in the NBA. Chris Paul and the New Orleans Hornets have been surprisingly great all year; how deep into the playoffs will they go?

In your league, two of you get the week off because of a hard-earned first-round bye. Four of you look to beat each other senseless in the first round of fantasy hoops, head-to-head action. The rest of you/us? Unless it’s a keeper league, or next year’s draft order is on the line, it’s close to check-out time on a lost season.
Just noticed that we now have 50 pages of archives. I have not been very active this year contributing to this site, and definitely regret this fact. Over the year, two of the original team have left. A lot has changed, but I am going to try to re-dedicate myself to this blog and our loyal following. On the horizon once the regular season ends will be our second fantasy one-on-one tourney, but with a twist. So once the fantasy trophies have been won and engraved, check us out here when you get a chance and see what’s happening.
In the meantime, I dug through the archives and found an old post I wrote about setting up a playoff pool. If you are new to the idea, it might be a place to start.
The GMs in my main league are going to try out an auction draft for our playoff pool this year. Keep reading if that interests you. Are you going to end up banking on a Celts-Cavs showdown in the second round? Maybe!

Wire to Wire - 03.19.08

Wire to Wire aims to be your waiver wire resource for all of your fantasy basketball needs. It will dive into playing time trends, injury replacements, and even an occasional category specialist—all of which can be found on a typical waiver wire within your fantasy league at any given time
With the fantasy playoffs soon approaching, it’s getting to the point where games-remaining is a big determinant in whom you’ll be adding-dropping over the next week. Leagues that lock rosters after a certain point will definitely want to pay attention to this. Those that allow streaming – while I don’t condone – will want to pay close attention to this as well. With that said, here are the players that should be on your current radars, given league settings.

Alright, so this is the last week of most league’s regular seasons. Hopefully you’ve locked yourself up a few top seeds or have at least clinched your spot in the playoffs. If not, well here’s to hoping you do so very soon. This may be the time to start streaming, so keep your head in the game this week if you need a big win. Streaming can save playoff lives.
But without further adieu, here is the schedule for next week (3/17-3/23):
The Fig Cap: You still suck Tony.

The shoot-out in the wild Western Conference has been great to follow, has it not? The top nine teams are separated by only 6.5 games. Every day the standings shift. Right now Phoenix sits in sixth while Dallas ranks seventh! This bodes well for fantasy owners as the best teams in the West should all be playing meaningful games down the stretch. Here’s a rundown of each team’s fantasy playoff schedule.

Beyond the Arc: Week 20

I think over the last few weeks, the NBA fan has taken over me and pushed the fantasy fan aside. I mean, if you are a true sports fan, how can you not be on the edge of your seat as we enter the last few weeks of the regular season? At the time I’m writing this (Friday afternoon, before the games) only seven games separate #1 from #9 in the West. And #10 isn’t out of it yet either. This is great.
Have we seen a better race to the finish in any sport? Baseball is always close because so few teams make it. But could a team sitting in 9th today end up in the Finals? It’s not out of the realm of possibility. This year was a HUGE win for the NBA. They stayed away from any controversy (Spygate and steroids anyone?) and pulled off a huge humanitarian effort/All-Star Weekend. What a great year it’s been and kudos to David Stern and all his people in the league office.
Let’s jump into the schedule for the next week (3/10-3/16):
The Fig Cap: Maybe some of this hot action will get KG in the mood, er, groove.
