Dropping Dimes Mock Draft: Round 1, Pick 6 - Shawn Marion
Posted by Ron Chow Categories: H2H, Site Features, Southeast Division, Miami Heat, Talent,
Shawn Marion got his wish last season when he was traded to the Miami Heat. Marion felt he was not getting the spotlight he deserved in Phoenix playing in the shadows of Steve Nash and Amare Stoudemire. In Miami, he’d be able to spread his wings and show his true talents. Well, the grass is not always greener on the other side. Let’s say that his fantasy performance last year in Miami was more like that of “Matrix Revolutions” and not like the original “Matrix” movie we loved in Phoenix. Not bad but not as good as the original. Let’s take a peep what you can expect from the Matrix this season.

Emeka Okafor’s Blocks and Boards…

...Will continue to be produced in Charlotte.
Not to be outdone by Andris Biedrins, the Charlotte Bobcats signed offense-less big man Emeka Okafor to a six year, $72 million deal. There were a few rumors of a sign and trade, but one look at the rest of the low post players on the Bobcats’ roster, and there was a very slim chance that this would happen. I can’t imagine that Larry Brown has a ton of faith in Sean May staying healthy this year, and the Ryan Hollins/Nazr Mohammed combo isn’t exactly the most prolific in the game.

If you need a fantasy fix because your playoffs draw near, feel free to check our playoff primers for the Western and Eastern conferences. Also see some science being dropped in the latest installment of Sarge’s Wire to Wire and Brandon’s Beyond the Arc. And if you have some extra idle time, you can think up all the different ways to interpret B’s Fig Cap.
For now we take a walk on the reality side to focus on the playoff races going on in the NBA. Chris Paul and the New Orleans Hornets have been surprisingly great all year; how deep into the playoffs will they go?

Playoff Primer 2008: Eastern Conference

Hey. It’s been a long time. Too long. Props to Sarge and Brandon for holding down the fort as best as they could. Things have been pretty good from my end, except for the fact I haven’t made the time to drop some dimes. The 2007-08 fantasy NBA season has been a downer for me; in my main league my draft crop included Gilbert Arenas, Andrea Bargnani, Randy Foye and Nene, which gives you a good idea where my season is going.
But enough about me and my pity party. Week 18 starts tomorrow. The playoffs start in Week 22. If you have a cushion and are looking to gear up for the playoffs, you’re going to want to check this. We are going to look at every team’s schedule during those key playoff weeks and break it down for you. Use this summary to your best advantage, especially if your league’s trading deadline has not passed.
Let’s start with the Eastern Conference and I’ll try to post on the Western Conference soon.

Dropping Dimes Mock Draft 2007: Round 5, Pick 1 - Antawn Jamison

The Fig Cap: “WOO HOO! Patrick is writing about ME!”
GUEST BLOGGER: Patrick Madden from Give Me The Rock
“I don’t get no respect!! That’s the story of my life, no respect, ya know?”
Antawn Jamison: Olympics bronze medal winner, NBA Sixth Man of the Year, one time NBA All-Star.
It’s the perfect byline for a team’s second banana. Jamison is the Jackie Chan to Gilbert Arenas’ Chris Tucker. He’s Danny Glover’s Roger Murtaugh to Mel Gibson’s Martin Riggs. If the Wizards were the Jackson Five, Jamison would be Jermaine Jackson. If they were an 80’s television show, Jamison would be Ricardo Tubbs.
You get the idea, I hope. Agent Zero gets the accolades, the media attention, the awards, the swag, the NBA 08 Live video game cover, the million dollar birthday parties, the blog, the professional Halo team, and the Hibachi. Even Jamison’s catch phrase seems like the boy wonder version of Arenas’. According to the Washington Post, Jamison calls out “Fiji” after every jump shot he makes. Ah, you might want to stop that immediately Antawn.
Round 5, Pick 1: Antawn Jamison, SF/PF, Washington Wizards

Dropping Dimes Mock Draft 2007 Round 4, Pick 9 - Emeka Okafor

It was over three years ago that Emeka Okafor was chosen second overall in the 2004 NBA draft becoming the first ever draft pick for the Charlotte Bobcats. If you recall there was great debate whom the Orlando Magic should pick first overall - Dwight Howard or Emeka Okafor. In the end, they took Howard. However, it looked like early on that Okafor was the more polished player as he went on to win the Rookie of the Year award, just edging out former U-Conn teammate, Ben Gordon. Now the verdict on who is the better player between Dwight Howard and Emeka Okafor is a little more cloudier and it seems that the wind is blowing Howard’s way.

Dropping Dimes Mock Draft Blog 2007: Round 4, Pick 8: Raymond Felton

Team “Five” has been fortunate enough to land two solid frontcourt players in Dirk Nowitzki and Tim Duncan, giving them the freedom to address the backcourt in back-to-back rounds. With Chauncey Billups getting nabbed in the third frame, we’re going to bolster the guard position even more by adding a player bound for a breakout.

Dropping Dimes Mock Draft: Round 4, Pick 4 - Jason Richardson
Posted by Scott Sargent Categories: H2H, Props, Roto, Site Features, Southeast Division, Charlotte Bobcats,
I apologize for the delay folks. Sometimes, the personal life takes over for a bit – and some things are just unavoidable. Now it’s back to the grind of getting this mock draft rolling. With the first three rounds, “Team Nine” has selected Dwyane Wade, Andre Iguodala and Jermaine O’Neal. This gives an incredibly talented base at both guard positions as well as some flexibility to play Iggy at the three. Jermaine O’Neal’s flexibility is welcomed, as well as his abilities to notch 20 and 10 a night. While the health issues are definitely prevalent with this squad, I have no issues in adding some more scoring with some long-range talent and highlight reels mixed in for good measure. With a new home and bright outlook for this season, I’m going with…

Dropping Dimes Mock Draft 2007: Round 4, Pick 1 - Joe Johnson
Posted by Ron Chow Categories: H2H, Roto, Site Features, Southeast Division, Atlanta Hawks, Talent,
Quick, do you know who the Fifth Beatle was ? The answer is a little more complicated depending if you consider the fifth Beatle being a musical or non-musical contributor. Some may say Pete Best, Stuart Sutcliffe, Brian Epstein or George Martin as being the “Fifth Beatle”. All right something a little easier, do you know which NBA player led his team in scoring and was one of six shooting guards that averaged both four rebounds and assists per game? Need a hint? His initials are J.J. If you guessed Joe Johnson then you are correct (of course, reading this post about J.J. should have been a clue!). Johnson has quietly put up solid numbers since joining Atlanta as a free agent.

Dropping Dimes Mock Draft 2007 Round 3 Pick 11 - Caron Butler
Posted by Alvin Lai Categories: H2H, Roto, Site Features, Southeast Division, Washington Wizards, Talent,
This was the first pick that drew some grumblings behind the scenes. Third round? “It seems a bit early, but what do I know,” wrote one of our resident experts in an e-mail. “I know what you are doing, BUT…” well, I can understand. But hey, the guy was an all-star. And a late season injury that ended his season on April 1st killed any momentum his great year would have garnered heading into the summer.
