Have you got the reboot fever yet? There are a lot of the new DC Comics titles that I’m interested in, and a lot that I’m not.
But that should be expected when there’s a Fifty-Twoniverse to deal with.
One of the new titles that I’m anxiously awaiting is Justice League International. It’s written by Dan Jurgens - a guy who certainly knows his way around super-heroes, and it’s illustrated by my friend Aaron Lopresti (the recent Wonder Woman artist who just did a stint on Weird Worlds with his own creation, Garbageman).
I’d let Aaron draw my Costco shopping list, so turning him loose on the JLI characters is a no-brainer for me.

There are those in the industry who track these kinds of things who believe that DC Comics has been making significant changes to the Superman character over the years in a continuing effort to thwart claims by the estates of Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster about the character.
A good place to start with this story is at Comics Beat.
With DC’s newest relaunch/reboot/do-over of their universe this fall, they are making more changes to Superman, and it's not just his costume or his fresh L'il Abner look. A lot of the changes won't be clear until you actually read Action Comics #1, on sale September 7. I've read that first issue, and here are the Top Ten changes to Superman's mythology.

9. Fights for truth, justice and the Military/Industrial Complex’s way.

Weekend Reading: Sherlock Holmes, Conan, and Spider-Man

For starters, let’s all wish writer Tom Spurgeon a speedy recovery. He took a blogging break earlier this year for health reasons and his essay about his health, his love of comics and his work is even more essential than his already-essential blog. If you read nothing else today, make it this.

Sherlock: Oh, that lovable curmudgeon Sherlock Holmes is causing trouble for the uneducated, easily threatened, fragile book burners of America. Apparently, A Study In Scarlet, a classic Holmes adventure, features an insensitive remark about Mormons. Imagine, a fictional character - not Holmes or Watson - from Victorian England having an unprogressive attitude. Forgive me while I clutch my pearls and head for the fainting couch. Galleycat has more on the story, including links to downloading the public domain book for free.
Don McGregor: The writer of Killraven and Black Panther (to name but two) has some thoughts about his wife Marsha on her birthday.

Comic Book Jobs: Checking Out Craigslist

Everyone already knows my unrequited love for Craigslist job-hunting. Let’s see if I can make you a fan as well:
Los Angeles: I’m thinking this might not happen since Wizard World L.A. is canned. But, someone was looking for a female cosplayer to hand out biz cards promoting their website. You need your own costume, though.
Los Angeles: And speaking a costumes, a costume designer is wanted for graphic novel character. They want to launch at the NY Comic Con in October so start sewing.

As everyone knows by now, 20th Century Fox has rebooted their nearly-50-year-old Planet Of The Apes franchise with a brand new movie: Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes.
It monkeys around with Ape continuity, and while respectful to a lot of the original Ape lore, the movie does make some changes to modernize it for a contemporary audience.
We’ve put together a list of the Top 10 of those changes.

Comic Book Jobs: Checking Out Craigslist

Craigslist is like the Match.com of job hunting. Sometimes, you find a partner that’s not too damaged and looks good in the right light, and other times it’s all unemployed fatties still using their yearbook picture for their profile.
You can decide which is which today.
Los Angeles: It may not be the next Captain America or even Cowboys & Aliens, but if you want to be in a super-hero there’s a casting call for The Superluver Project. It’s “a new comic tale of a super-suave superhero and his quest to spread a little love and order around the world.”

Fan: My funny book acquaintance David Seidman was profiled recently in Jewish Journal. All I can say is that the interviewer would probably be overwhelmed by the San Diego con.
Actors: Chad Michael Murray of One Tree Hill has written a graphic novel that Archaia will publish.

As the editor/compiler of two massive reference books - Timeline Of The Planet Of The Apes and Lexicon Of The Planet Of The Apes - he’s delved into the nerd minutiae of the movies, comics, TV shows and animated cartoons like Cornelius digging in the Forbidden Zone.
And we are all better people for it - because the only way to prevent the Apes from taking over, is to keep talking about it and disrupt the timeline.
On the occasion of the release of the new Apes extravaganza, Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, I went right to the source to ask Rich a few questions about continuity, apes and more.
